There's a changing of the guard for the National Association of Black Military Women in Brooklyn and across the nation.

News 12 sat down with women in Bed-Stuy who were recently appointed to their new offices and are determined to educate the country about Black military women and their contributions.

NABMW was birthed from the women of the 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion. These fearless servicewomen were given the mission of a lifetime: to sort through and fix three years backlog of undelivered mail. Many of their efforts had gone unnoticed, but the NABMW aims to keep the past remembered and at the forefront along with Black military women.

The instructor who served many years teaching soldiers lifesaving measures in critical moments, Deidre Darden, is now the Brooklyn chapter president. Stepping aside from the role is Col. Chief Nurse Annette Tucker Osborne. She now assumes the role of president at the national level.

For CEO Wendy McClinton, she says seeing this camaraderie is simply inspiring. For all of these servicewomen, they say they are charting new territory with the help of those who came before them.
