The Lorain County Urban League Young Professionals Chapter is hosting its Join Week to engage active and future members.

YPs are between the ages of 21 and 40.

“Whether you’re starting out in your career or becoming more established, it can be overwhelming,” said Chapter President Brittany Lovett. “It’s so important that we surround ourselves with people who want better and are doing better.”

The Young Professionals provides a safe space for members to grow and thrive and is committed to meeting social, service and professional development needs, Lovett said.

“It’s not only professional development, which we do offer, but it’s deeper than that,” she said. “It’s our generation’s time to be a part of the movement, and when we come together, we find that we feel more empowered to continue the work that we’re doing and share that with others.”

The Lorain County Urban League Young Professionals chapter was established in February 2022.

“What we’ve been able to do in the short year since we launched is amazing, and now we’re reaching that next step,” Lovett said. “We’re creating an atmosphere where people can be themselves no matter what sector they may be involved in.”

Lovett said she originally was a founding member of a Young Professionals chapter near Cincinnati.

“That was my first time being a part of the Urban League movement and there were so many people who were passionate about things going on in the world, and I needed to be around people who understood what I didn’t even know how to express,” she said. “It gave me a sense of connection to others and I found my tribe.

“So, when I relocated to Northeast Ohio, the first thing I did was contact our local Urban League.”

The Lorain County Urban League Young Professionals Join Week will take place Feb. 7-12 with a weeklong schedule of activities and events for existing and potential members.
