I JUST KEEP THINKING, IF I DIDN’T OPEN THE DOOR, WE DON’T KNOW WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. ANYTHING COULD HAVE HAPPENED. KHIREE: AROUND 2:00 FRIDAY AFTERNOON, POLICE SAY SOMEONE SHOT A 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN THE LOWER BACK AND 16-YEAR-OLD BOY IN THE ANKLE NEAR THE 1100 BLOCK OF CAMBRIA STREET. THAT’S RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL. DIAMOND EVANS LIVES NEARBY AND HEARD THE GUNSHOTS AND JUMPED INTO ACTION. >> WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR, FIVE KIDS RAN IN. THE ONE LITTLE BOY WAS LIMPING. AND WHEN HE WAS LIMPING, ON LIKE -- I’M LIKE, YOUR LEG IS BLEEDING. HE FALLS ON THE LIVING ROOM FLOOR. ONCE HE FALLS ON THE LIVING ROOM FLOOR, I GRABBED HIS LEG, I TRIED TO WRAP IT UP. KHIREE: EVANS NOTICED THE GIRL WAS HURT, TOO. >> THE LITTLE GIRL, SHE WAS STANDING IN THE HOUSE AND SHE STARTED GRABBING HER BACK AND WHEN I LOOKED, SHE GOT GRAZED. SHE DIDN’T EVEN KNOW SHE WAS SHOT. SHE STARTED WOBBLING AND I YELLED TO THE AMBULANCE, SHE’S HIT ALSO. THEY GRAB HER. WHEN THEY BRING HER OUTSIDE, SHE PASSES OUT. KHIREE: THE SCHOOL WAS ON LOCKDOWN FOR ABOUT AN HOUR BEFORE STUDENTS WERE DISMISSED. >> ANY TIME OUR STUDENTS ARE INVOLVED IN ANY KIND OF GUN VIOLENCE, IT’S HORRIFIC AND TRAGIC. KHIREE: JOHN DAVIS IS BALTIMORE CITY CHIEF OF SCHOOLS. HE SAYS IT’S UNCLEAR WHY THE STUDENTS WERE NOT IN THE BUILDING AT THE TIME OF THE SHOOTING, AND SAYS STUDENTS ARE GENERALLY NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE CAMPUS WITHOUT PERMISSION. >> THE SCHOOL, NUMBER ONE, IS PREPARING FOR MONDAY WHEN WE’VE GOT TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE ADULTS ON HAND TO HELP ANY STUDENT IN CRISIS, ANY FAMILY THEY MAY HAVE WITNESSED IT. Baltimore police on Monday announced the arrests of two teenagers in connection with last month's double-shooting outside a city school. Video above: Teens injured in shooting near Brooklyn school (January 2023)City police said a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were charged with attempted first-degree murder and remain held at Central Booking. Police said the 16-year-old boy was arrested on Jan. 11 and the 17-year-old boy was arrested Friday.Police said the charges stem from a shooting on the afternoon of Jan. 6 in the 1100 block of Cambria Street, across the street from Benjamin Franklin High School.Police said investigators learned that both suspects shot into a group of young people without warning, hitting a 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl.
