Chattanooga woman charged after shooting man in her backyard

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Chattanooga woman is being charged with aggravated assault after shooting a man in her backyard, according to CPD.

It happened on 14th Street in Chattanooga.

Police say the homeowner heard a noise outside around 4:30 a.m. on Monday. She went outside to investigate and found a man in her backyard.

The woman told the man to leave, CPD said. They say she then fired a warning shot. However, police said the woman shot him in the ankle.

When CPD arrived, they said the man had a non-life-threatening injury.

Chattanooga police said the man was given first aid and taken to a local hospital.

The homeowner is currently being charged with aggravated assault, CPD said. They say this is because the man posed no imminent threat at the time of the shooting.

Police have not revealed why the man was in the woman’s yard.
