IS THE FIRST DAY OF SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK. OF COURSE, ALABAMA NO STRANGER TO SEVERE WEATHER, AS A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE STILL RECOVERING FROM SOME JANUARY TORNADOES. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IS REMINDING YOU THAT IT’S IMPORTANT TO STAY WEATHER AWARE YEAR ROUND. AND HERE ARE SOME WAYS THEY SUGGEST THAT YOU DO THIS. MAKE SURE YOU REVIEW YOUR SAFETY PLAN. MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE IN YOUR FAMILY KNOWS WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF A DISASTER. FINALLY, CHECK FOR UPDATES. OFTEN DURING STORMS AND HAVE AT LEAST THREE WAYS TO GET A SEVERE WEATHER WARNING. Severe Weather Awareness week in Central Alabama
Strong thunderstorms can occur at any month of the year and any time, day or night. There are two distinct severe weather seasons in Central Alabama. Our primary severe weather season is considered to be in the spring, from March through May; but there is also a secondary season that typically runs from the beginning of November until mid-December. The severity of each severe weather season varies from year to year, but it's imperative that you stay prepared year-round. The National Weather Service in Calera have put together an interactive map detailing each county. History and research confirms being well prepared for a storm can increase your survival and resilience no matter what type of weather you are faced with. Severe weather awareness week is meant to be a check-up in the weather department; ensuring each Alabamian has the change to survive and thrives before, during and after severe storms strike.
