'Explosive device' sets SUV on fire in Long Island driveway: police

NORTH MERRICK, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A man threw an “explosive device” at an SUV in a Long Island driveway on Sunday, sparking a vehicle fire, Nassau County police said Monday.

The explosive ignited as it struck the front of the white 2016 Cadillac Escalade parked outside a home on Sherman Avenue in North Merrick around 5:30 a.m.

No one was injured in the firebombing, but the front-end of the vehicle was damaged by flames, police said.

After tossing the explosive, the man fled on foot eastbound towards Park Avenue, according to police.

Detectives have yet to release any footage of the suspect. Police only said he was wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt at the time.
