Officers responded to a reported assault that turned into a standoff early on Monday morning, February 6.(KFVS)

While investigating, they found the suspect, later identified as Philip Swift, 37, from Sikeston, at a home in the 600 block of Pine.

A release from Sikeston DPS stated the officers found two juvenile victims outside the building in visible distress. They informed the officers that Swift was in possession of a firearm and another juvenile victim was inside the apartment, asleep.

Officers heard a gunshot come from inside the apartment, so they forced entry through the front door and located the juvenile victim.

Swift yelled at the officers to leave from a bedroom inside the apartment while officers ushered the juvenile out of the front door to safety.

As the juvenile was leaving the apartment, Swift fired several more shots and officers retreated outside.

When officers tried to talk to Swift, they say he barricaded himself inside the home and would not comply with officer commands.

The Sikeston Special Operations Group was deployed to the scene. Negotiations began and the group was able to get into the home.

According to Sikeston DPS, the incident took several hours and several area agencies assisted.

The tenants of the building were evacuated to a safe location.

Swift was located in a bedroom with a six-shot revolver with six spent shell casings in the cylinder.

There were no injuries.

Swift was taken into custody without incident and lodged at Scott County Jail with charges of six counts of assault first degree, three for special victim and three for endangering the welfare of a child. He was also charged with unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a weapon and stealing a firearm.
