“I’m working for any opportunity,” Cabrera told the New York Post’s Mark W. Sanchez. “I’m working at left field. I’m working at shortstop, third base, second base, right field, second base, wherever ... I’m just working hard so the moment they give me an opportunity, just be in the shape to [run with] that opportunity.”
The Yankees have yet to establish a permanent solution for the left field position which opened up after Andrew Benintendi signed a five year, $75 million deal with the Chicago White Sox. Cabrera will be competing with Aaron Hicks for the left field job, barring a last-minute move by Brian Cashman. The general manager also recently signed Billy McKinney, Willie Calhoun and Rafael Ortega as outfield depth.
