CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The pastor of a West Englewood church promises to rebuild after her church was destroyed by fire over the weekend.
The Universal Temple of Christ was a one-story brick and cinder block building on 55th and Damen. Fire hit the building early Saturday morning and was so intense it caused the roof to cave in. City crews had to tear down the rest of the structure because it had been left in an unsafe condition.
Pastor Edrena Bell told CBS-2 the church was not insured and that she’s going to try to rebuild in whatever way she can, with loans, grants and support from the community.
She’s started a GoFundMe page to begin raising that money. The goal is $50,000, but, so far, donations total in the hundreds of dollars.
