KPD: 56-year-old charged with second-degree murder after fatal stabbing

The Knoxville Police Department said Mark Venson stabbed a 47-year-old during a physical altercation.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Knoxville man has been charged with second-degree murder after stabbing someone at an apartment complex early Monday, Feb. 6, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

Police identified the defendant as 56-year-old Mark Venson.

Officers responded to The Vista Apartments at 938 Hall of Fame Drive around 12:05 a.m. and found a 47-year-old man on a staircase with stab wounds to the chest and head, KPD said. Police identified the victim as Marshall Nelson. 

The victim was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to KPD. 

Witnesses told police they'd heard two people arguing about money before the stabbing. 

Venson was booked into jail about 7:30 p.m. Monday, according to KPD.
