West Virginia in ESPN’s Top 25

Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers are 14-9 overall and 3-7 in conference play, but they play in the toughest conference in the college basketball and the computer rankings recognize that.

ESPN’s computer model, the Basketball Power Index, updated its top 25 rankings on Sunday morning and West Virginia is currently ranked #21 in the rankings.

The Mountaineers are also ranked #14 in the KenPom Rankings and #20 in the NET Rankings, which is what the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee primarily uses to pick the field for the tournament.

The official AP Top 25 polls will be released later today and it’s very unlikely that West Virginia will appear in that, but that is largely a popularity contest and not an accurate measurement of how good teams are right now.

The Mountaineers are back in action this Wednesday against the #13 ranked Iowa State Cyclones at home inside the WVU Coliseum. The game starts at 7:00PM.
