CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Camp Rainbow, which grew out of the Dream Factory in Clarksville, has been going on since 1983, providing kids with medical needs a fully supported summer camp experience.

It is held each year at Brandon Springs Group Camp at Land Between the Lakes. After being sidelined for two years by COVID-19, Camp Rainbow returned in 2022 and celebrated 40 years.

Camp Director Jereme Miner said they are excited about getting back together again. “This year, the biggest thing we’re looking for is to be able to help more kids, and the new bonds that will be made between campers and counselors,” Miner said.

Camp Rainbow, coming up June 12-17, is free for children and their families and relies on donations and support from businesses, individuals and volunteers.

Each of the kids, or campers as they are called, are partnered with a volunteer counselor for the whole week. The youngsters are also under the watchful eye of medical personnel from Premier Medical Group and Vanderbilt University Medical Center 24 hours a day.

“It’s great getting to go back to the of tug-of-war, sack races, taking it back to video games, laser tag and having a whole week of fun stuff,” Miner said. Each year, Camp Rainbow welcomes around 40-45 youngsters and close to 100 volunteers.

The week features a long list of activities for youngsters including swimming, canoeing, paddleboats and hot air balloon rides. There’s lots of games, arts and crafts, fishing, a carnival, inflatables and a visit from Bikers Who Care.

This will be the 14th year that Beaver 100.3 FM has supported the organization with the Camp Rainbow Radiothon. This year, the annual radiothon fundraiser is set for Thursday and Friday, Feb. 16 and 17, and can be heard on Beaver 100.3 FM.

Mike Sanders, Beaver program director and afternoon air personality, said they are super excited to have a full house at the station in Clarksville as guests on the radio.

“It’s going to be an awesome two days with special guests and volunteers coming by the Beaver 100.3 studio this year. It’s so rewarding to see our listeners and staff get so into the two-day Camp Rainbow Radiothon. We have a blast,” Sanders said.
