Monday morning started out with a bang in Buffalo.... literally.

Reports of an earthquake started rolling in on social media around 6:15 Monday morning and were confirmed to be a 3.8 earthquake that hit just north of West Seneca.

This video is from Cheektowaga.

This is not the first earthquake to hit Buffalo. The last major quake was back in 33 years ago in Amherst when a 3.0 earthquake was felt.

Earthquakes do happen here in Western New York but they are usually really small or not felt at all. Western New York sits atop the Clarendon-Linden fault system.

This fault line has caused many small earthquakes, but big ones like this morning are very rare.
