Daniel Arsham‘s collection of eroded cars is officially going on view in Los Angeles later this month at the Petersen Automotive Museum. The new exhibit, titled Arsham Auto Motive, will feature an array of contemporary and thought-provoking sculptures and posters created by the artist.

The interdisciplinary artist brings together various works that span across different mediums including, sculpture, architecture, drawing, film, and stage design. In his “eroded” works, the exhibit sees Arsham bring concepts that represent the past, present and future together to create a “fictional archaeology” where objects of the present are unearthed at a late point in time.

The collection sees Arsham models his pieces after prized automotive including the 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback, 2022 Porsche 911, 2018 Ferrari and the 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster, amongst others, casting these modern artifacts with geological materials like sand, quartz, and selenite. The result sees makes the pieces appear as if they are fossilized and discovered after it has been buried for ages. The exhibit aims to historicize the automobile and acts as a commentary and glimpse of what the future has to hold. Besides the four cars, the exhibit will also feature a never-before-seen eroded BMW poster and a decayed gas pump.
