Teen, 14, robs male at gunpoint after arranging cellphone purchase on Facebook, police say

AKRON, Ohio — A 14-year-old male is in custody and several weapons were confiscated after police say the teen used Facebook to arrange the purchase of a cellphone, but then robbed the seller at gunpoint.

Police say the robbery occurred just before noon Thursday on the 1200 block of Kenmore Boulevard in the Kenmore neighborhood. The male victim tells police he agreed to meet the teen after communicating through Facebook Marketplace.

When the seller arrived, the teen brandished a handgun, took the victim’s cellphone and then ran from the area, police say.

Police say they were able to quickly identify the suspect and arrested him at a home on the 2200 block of 22nd Street SW. The cellphone was recovered, and officers also found two “AK-47-style rifles” and a 9 mm handgun.
