On Sunday, NASCAR unloaded in Los Angeles, California. The 1/4-mile bullring inside the Los Angeles Coliseum brought drama to stock car racing.

With 10 laps to go, Austin Dillon ran 2nd as Bubba Wallace was running 3rd. Race leader Martin Truex Jr picked the inside lane for a restart, as did Austin Dillon. Bubba Wallace elected for the front row, outside.

“Shootout, time to get it, the No. 23 team stated over the radio. “You damn right.”

As the green dropped, Martin Truex Jr cleared Wallace and held the race lead. Wallace remained on the outside as Austin Dillon worked inside of him in the battle for 2nd.

Wallace run wide into turn three. Dillon shut the door on him off turn four, stuffing Wallace in the wall as he hung onto his right rear.

With 9 to go, Wallace drove into the bumper of Dillon, shoving him into turn one. Wallace worked inside of Dillon and leaned on him again into turn three. Dillon was hooked in the left rear off turn four and he turned left to save it, shoving Wallace down the front straight.

With 8 to go, Wallace leaned on Dillon once more into turn one. He did it again in turn three.

As they exited turn four with 7 to go, Wallace completed the pass for 2nd. Dillon lined up the bumper of Wallace, he shoved the No. 23 car into the turn.

Retaliation

Wallace spun and backed it into the fence. The caution was thrown.

Under caution, Wallace re-fired his car and waited for Dillon to circle back around. As Dillon attempted to pass Wallace under yellow, Wallace drove into the right side of Dillon, under yellow.

Ahead of the 2023 season, NASCAR announced new rules for on-track altercations. The response likely stems following the incident between Kyle Larson and Bubba Wallace.

Bubba Wallace was noticeably upset at the end of the race. He remained in the car for a long time even as race winner Martin Truex Jr was handed his medal.

Austin Dillon comments

“I hate it for Bubba, he had a good car and a good run,” Austin Dillon opened to Fox Sports.

“But, you can’t tell who’s either pushing him or getting pushed. I just know he sent me through the corner and I saved it three times through there. Released the brake, all kinds of stuff.”

“Then, when I got down [to the bottom], I was going to give the same. Probably, it was a little too hard.”

“The Chevy is beat up and used up. My teammate let me through to try and get Truex at the end, that was nice. It’s been fun. Hopefully we can do this more often.”

“We were really good the first half of the race,” Bubba Wallace told Bob Pockrass.

“All the cautions, I couldn’t tell if I was letting it get too cold or too hot. Once I fell back to 4th, I realized I was letting it get too cold.”

“I was kicking myself for that. But, quickly adjusted.”

“I got back going and the No. 3 just never tried to make a corner. He just always run into my left rear.”

“It is what it is. I got run into the fence by him down the straightaway, on that restart. So, I gave him a shot. Then, we get dumped. It sucks.”

Wallace added, “Y’all are looking for something, but I ain’t going to give you nothing.”
