Shocking Report: Phoenix Suns Offered Chris Paul In This Trade Package

Chris Haynes of TNT and Bleacher Report reported that the Phoenix Suns offered Chris Paul to the Brooklyn Nets in a package for Kyrie Irving.

On Sunday afternoon, the Brooklyn Nets reportedly completed a blockbuster trade that sent the Dallas Mavericks superstar point guard Kyrie Irving in a multi-player deal (Shams Charania of The Athletic was the first to report).

Irving is one of the best players in the NBA, so plenty of teams had an interest in adding him to their roster.

According to Chris Haynes of TNT and Bleacher Report (who was appearing on NBA TV), the Phoenix Suns offered a package to the Nets (for Irving) that included future Hall of Famer Chris Paul.

Haynes on NBA TV: "Sources have told me that they proposed a package based around Chris Paul and Jae Crowder and some unspecified picks for Kyrie Irving."

Paul is in his third season with the Suns, and has helped turn around the entire franchise (they had been in the middle of a ten-year playoff drought before he arrived).

In 2021, the Suns made the NBA Finals, and last season they had the best record (64-18) in the league.

Right now, the 37-year-old is averaging 13.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 8.6 assists and 1.4 steals per contest in 34 games.

Irving is much younger (30), and is averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per contest in 40 games.

That said, the Suns have built something special over the last few seasons with Paul, so the fact they were willing to move him comes across as somewhat of a surprise.

Currently, they are 29-26 in 55 games, which has them as the fifth seed in the Western Conference.
