Man arrested after fire breaks out at Lawrenceburg motel

LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. (WSMV) - A man was arrested after a fire broke out at a Lawrenceburg motel on Sunday night, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said.

Shawn Michael Buie, 49, of Lebanon, was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated arson and one count of reckless endangerment.

The Lawrenceburg Fire Department was dispatched to the David Crockett Motel at 6:40 p.m. after reports of a commercial structure fire with flames visible.

The first firefighters to arrive and Lawrenceburg Police worked to evacuate occupants of rooms in the same building that was on fire. Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke coming from the south side of the structure.

No one was injured, according to officials.

According to Fire Chief Jay Moore, an aggressive attack was performed on the fire. The fire was contained to the room it originated and the room directly above it.

During an investigation with TBI, agents found information that identified Buie as the suspect for the cause of the fire.

Buie was booked into the Lawrence County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
