80-year-old woman killed in a hit-and-run in Seattle

Bari Hill was about five minutes away from her destination-- her daughter's house-- when she was hit in a crosswalk. Police continue to look for a suspect.

Police are looking for the driver of a van that ran down an 80-year-old woman in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood.

According to Seattle Police, a driver hit Bari Hill, who was walking near E Madison St and E Denny Way, and then sped off.

Hill was walking from her assisted living home to her daughter's home for a family gathering. She was about a five-minute walk from her daughter's home when she was hit, family said.

"My wife suspected something was wrong, something’s off, because she generally likes coming over to our place and hanging out," said Ajay Jindal, Hill's son-in-law. "So when the phone call came in from her brother-- yeah, that was a shock."

"Who hits an old woman and then just takes off?" he said.

Jindal describes Hill as a happy woman who laughed a lot, danced and loved telling stories.

"So right now, there’s the grieving of her death, but there’s also this anger of ‘okay, who did this and how do we catch them?'" Jindal said. "Be a decent human being and turn yourself in."
