February is Earthquake Awareness Month also

February is – aside from being Black History Month – also Earthquake Awareness Month, and state officials are reminding people about the importance of knowing the seismic zones where a person lives.
Two major fault lines converge in Southern Illinois – the New Madrid Seismic Zone and the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone – both of which are capable of generating powerful quakes.
The Illinois Emergency Management Agency says in the event of a big quake, you should drop to the floor and try to take cover under a sturdy table or desk.
And just like with other natural disasters, you should have an emergency kit including non-perishable food, bottled water, and other essentials.
