After a couple lost everything in a fire in early January, their friends decided to hold a fundraiser to help them out.
Artist 2 Artist was held at the V Spot in Scranton this afternoon as a benefit event to raise money.
"I can’t tell you how grateful we are for the outpouring of love from the family, friends and strangers that have been here through this all. And to do something like this is something we could have never expected but it means so much and we really hope we could give back someday," said Ryan Flaherty.
Flaherty and his wife Yasmin lost almost everything in a fire in early January.
They are in the local art scene with Ryan as a standup comedian and Yasmin as an artist.
Their artist friends created this event to raise money and get the community involved.
“I think the idea is just helping others, being a human," said Angelia Petrillo, a comedian who helped organize the event. "You know we’re artists, we do this for people all the time. We put on benefits for people all the time so why not do it for your own when they need it the most.”
Petrilo met Ryan through standup.
Artists 2 Artists hosted musicians and comedians on the stage and held raffles in the back.
The raffle items were donated by local businesses.
“Everyone here is doing different art," said Flaherty. "And I’ve met so many great artists over my time doing this and I’m really grateful to be part of this community.”
