NYPD: Man shot, critically injured during police standoff in Concourse Village

A man was shot and critically injured during a police standoff in Concourse Village Sunday afternoon.
Authorities said just before 2:30 p.m., the 49-year-old man assaulted a 63-year-old woman on East 153rd Street and Grand Concourse.
The woman approached five uniformed police officers for help.
The officers then tried to catch up with the suspect who refused their orders to stop.
Police say the suspect then took out a firearm and pointed it at a passerby. After repeated instructions to drop the gun, police say the suspect put the weapon to his head and then turned it on the officers.
Police say four of the five officers fired at the suspect, striking him numerous times on his body.
The suspect was taken into custody and both he and the woman were taken to a hospital.
Authorities had not revealed the extent of the woman's injuries or the identity of the suspect as of Sunday night.
