The Brooklyn Nets are trading guard Kyrie Irving and forward Markieff Morris to the Dallas Mavericks for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2029 unprotected first-round pick and second-round picks in 2027 and 2029, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

After Irving’s trade request became public on Friday, it took only two days for him to get his wish to get out of Brooklyn.

This trade came about because Irving and the Nets were unable to come to agreement on a contract extension that satisfied both parties after months of negotiations. There were multiple reports that Irving wanted to sign a long-term deal with Brooklyn, but after Friday, Irving apparently just wants a long-term deal from anyone.

There have been no indications if Dallas trading for Irving means it plans to give Irving the deal he wants. The Nets were faced with few options. Irving will be a unrestricted free agent this offseason, and there were reports stating that if Brooklyn didn’t trade Irving by the deadline, he would sit out the rest of this season.

Dinwiddie is averaging 17.7 points and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 45.5% from the field and 40.5% from behind the 3-point line. Finney-Smith is averaging 9.1 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 41.6% from the field and 35.5% from 3-point land.
