The 50th annual KVAL Eugene Boat & Sportsmen's Show kicked off Friday at the Lane Events Center.
An organization that helps build motorcycles for injured veterans returned to the show this weekend for their fourth year.
John Barker, a former Marine, is the president of Combat Hero Bike Build.
The organization is a nonprofit that finances the building of five or six bikes a year for disabled veterans.
Barker says the bikes usually cost around $70,000 each.
He says the nonprofit covers all costs for veterans.
Barker described the time the nonprofit gifted a motorcycle to a double-amputee veteran who had given up on hope of riding one again after his injury.
"We gave it to him. He’s crying all over the place. That’s what it’s about," said Barker. "He called me and he said, 'I used to think it was about being on the motorcycle.’ He says That’s not it. It’s reaching that plateau of being normal again."
They will be accepting nominations for veterans in need of a wheelchair as well as funds to build more motorcycles for disabled veterans.
The show will continue Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
