NEW ORLEANS — A Chalmette man has been arrested following a shooting death shortly after midnight Sunday morning.

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) arrested 22-year-old Frankie Morello after he allegedly shot an acquaintance at his home in the 400 block of East Solidelle Street in Chalmette. The acquaintance, an adult man, was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Detectives eventually determined that Morello assumed the gun he was handling was not loaded. According to the SBSO, no one else was injured.

Morello was transported to and booked at the St. Bernard Parish Prison Sunday morning.
