Former Local Last Seen in Humboldt Bay Region

When Robin Renner’s dad, Carrol Johnson, a commercial fisherman traveling from Santa Cruz to his home in Illwaco*, Washington, called her about noon on Friday, January 27, he told her he was in Eureka and going to visit her sister who lived there, but first, he was going to go grocery shopping. He planned to stay for two days.
But he hasn’t called Robin since.
“I reported him as a missing person on Wednesday [February 1],” she told us.
His boat is still in the harbor with the newly purchased groceries sitting on the counter or put away. A phone number written on his to-do list belongs to a Casie Dean of Eureka. Arcata Police are hoping to speak to her. She does have an active felony warrant for her arrest.
Robin told us that he did use his credit card to rent a room at the Motel 6 in Arcata. The motel has footage of him checking in with a woman believed to be Casie Dean. They both left the room that night, but only she returned to it.
The family has been checking his boat frequently and he hasn’t returned. Someone attempted to use his credit card on January 29 but Robin says she canceled the card on January 28. But, what worries her is her dad has never tried to restart the card. “Obviously he would call the bank and ask why,” she pointed out. But he hasn’t and it has been over a week since the card was canceled.
“This is very, very odd,” Robin told us. “He calls every day…He’s got medical conditions.” And, she said, “He’s very reliable…This is so not him. I know something is really wrong. He’ll call no matter what.”
Johnson was a local and, Robin says, “A lot of people around town know him because he grew up here his whole life.” She’s hoping someone will know something.
Her voice thick with emotion, Robin said, “It’s raining, and he’s out there and I am so worried.”
Carroll Johnson, is 5’10”, has white hair, brown eyes, and is 69 years of age.

This smells of foul play. Carol johnson is a long time veteran and successful commercial fisherman. Sounds like he was with the wrong woman and I suspect a setup with a male malfeasant involved.

All information about the woman in question can be found on her FB page. Her male companion is on her FB page. When you go to his FB page, he lists his phone #. I have screen shots of it all.
The male has been in jail since December.

If she is pining for her boyfriend to be released from jail I suspect that she only cleaned up her look and not her actual life.
I wonder if they can get surveillance footage from the site of the attempted use of the credit card. Unless it was by phone… then maybe can get the source of the call from the phone records. Could well be this Casie Dean, which would certainly point a more certain finger toward her; or could be someone else, which would be very helpful to know.
Carroll would never stay in a Motel 6. It must have been someone else.
The article says there is video of him checking in with her, both leaving, and only her coming back. Sounds like she left him somewhere and either she or someone tried to use his card.
This is sad AF. I hope they locate him soon. Sounds like someone took advantage of him. Fingers crossed the APD is on this relentlessly. Why do we never hear the local FBI is helping on these kinds of cases in which speed is of the essence?

Very unlikely that the FBI has any sustained presence in Humboldt County. Why? Because as with this case, they have WAY bigger quarry to pursue amongst the other 3.5 million square miles that constitute the USA.

This is real life, not some TV CSI fiction where FBI agents are sitting around waiting for the phone to ring.
The FBI only gets involved when the case’s jurisdiction crosses state lines. Local and state governments have to do their part first. If the FBI were swooping in on every local crime, it would stretch their resources too thin as well as taking away local control over the case. Besides, out-of-town FBI agents don’t know the local area or it’s people.
Highly doubt he would just give up the ATM card for anyone to use. They didn’t have the forethought to get the pin number. That is some shady stuff. Hope they’re able to track her down and get to the bottom of all this. The sooner the better.
His own daughter, hope fully she is taking care to make sure he is okay and not allowing any foul play. Speculation can raise a tall tail. The friends she keeps may be a cause for alarm.

Carroll and Dean have been friends for years. Just as an FYI. She didn’t just waltz into his life recently… I would be very surprised if there was any foul play here.
Did I miss the part where he was busted for smuggling fentanyl? I’ve seen, over the years, Carroll making news for all the wrong reasons, but I didn’t see any mention of fentanyl in that report.
This is a fabrication! Please stick to facts people! His CHILDREN and other family members are hurting. This is a man with a medical condition he cannot help. He is someones son, brother, uncle, dad, grandpa, cousin, nephew, baby daddy, ex-husband, brother-in-law, and friend. He is loved and all we should do is offer support and prayers.

I was responding to someone who said something. That comment is now gone, deleted. I don’t believe it, but was responding to some scurrilous and unsubstantiated accusations. I wish that comment being deleted had taken mine as well, because it looks like I’m the one who made the accusation. I most certainly am not.
I hope Carroll comes home. My thoughts are with his family and all that love him.
A quick surf of some local news sites shows Mr Johnson has a history. I would be concerned he fucked around and found out where all those missing people go.

Many people had restraining orders against him at different times. He was well known in the fishing fleet for “f” ing with others gear and boats. Looks like his life choices might have caught up with him. I feel sorry for his family as they don’t deserve this.

To be fair to all involved if you look up his name he does have a lengthy colorful history with LEOs. Quite the character I would imagine. The article about crashing a boat in the harbor was pretty interesting. At this point the only thing known is he is missing his ATM card is not.
Oh I know about the alcohol related incidents. The post that was deleted said that he had been busted for smuggling fentanyl during the crash on the bay. The author then posted a link to the boat crash, which did not even mention fentanyl. That comment, now deleted, was the one we were responding to. Because there was no mention of fentanyl at all.
I’m just a bit miffed that when it was deleted our comments were not, looking like we were the ones bringing it up. I would not do that.
HE WAS DRUNK AND OD-ED. So it looks like It wasn’t a murder of “who dun it”. Ppl shouldn’t speculate. You never know what the outcome is going to be with drugs and alcohol.
