FALCON, Colo. (KKTV) - Law enforcement has confirmed a juvenile was killed in a quintuple-shooting northeast of Colorado Springs over the weekend.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says 911 calls started cascading in just before 1 a.m. Sunday as numerous residents reported hearing loud and repeated gunfire in the Meridian Ranch neighborhood in Falcon.

“My son woke me up and said, ‘Dad, there’s gunfire outside.’ ‘What?! No there’s not.’ He was like, ‘Yeah.’ And then we heard it. Heard the ricochets. Bullets and and yeah kind of scary,” neighbor Robert Yarbroth told 11 News.

Deputies responded to the 12200 block of Point Reyes Drive and found five shooting victims. Details on exactly where the victims were shot have not been released; the sheriff’s office says the crime scene spanned more than a block.

“Five victims were transported to local area hospitals with varying levels of injuries,” the sheriff’s office said. “Despite efforts by first responders and medical personnel, one of the victims succumbed to their injuries at the hospital and was pronounced deceased.”

The sheriff’s office confirmed Tuesday that the victim was a juvenile. No further information has been released by EPSO, including the victim’s approximate age, though a family member previously told 11 News that that the victim was a 17-year-old oy.

Surrounding homes were put under a shelter-in-place order for a couple of hours. The order was lifted about 4:30 a.m.

Authorities say there are several suspects, and the shooting is thought to be linked to a carjacking near the Citadel Mall the day before. The carjacking occurred in the Potter Drive area, but as of Tuesday no additional information on the crime has been released.

The sheriff’s office has not released suspect information.

Detectives continue to urge anyone with knowledge on the case or with door-cam footage taken around the time of the shooting to call the sheriff’s office immediately at 719-520-77777.
