Call the Midwife star Helen George has teased "jeopardy" for Trixie's upcoming wedding to Matthew.

George, who has played nurse Trixie Franklin on the BBC drama series since its inception in 2012, opened up to Radio Times, telling fans to expect some jeopardy in her character's upcoming nuptials.

Following three years of romance, Trixie and her fiancé Matthew, who is played by Olly Rix, are set to be wed, but according to George the wedding day may not go to plan.

"I mean it's never completely smooth sailing," she revealed. "There's always got to be a bit of jeopardy."

"There wouldn't be any drama if it was smooth sailing so buckle up," added her on-screen fiancé of the pair's big day.

Joking that no wedding is without drama, their co-star Megan Cusack, who plays Nurse Nancy Corrigan, quipped: "It wouldn't be a wedding if it was smooth sailing."

Following the death of his wife during childbirth in season 10, Matthew and Trixie struck up a relationship after getting to know each other.

Promising some "pivotal moments" for the couple in the current season 12, George described the duo as "fiery", saying that phone conversations between them prove to be very important.

"The phone calls are really important because he lives in West London, she lives in East London, they have to communicate," George said.

Recently, the famously blonde star debuted a brand-new look, giving fans a glimpse of her brand new brunette locks via an Instagram post.

She is currently starring in a tour of the musical The King and I, and described the theatre as her "first love".

"Theatre is my first love, and I am so excited to be returning to the stage for this beautiful, majestic production of The King and I," she shared.

Call the Midwife airs on Sunday nights on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
