Teenager involved in street racing leads authorities on high-speed chase

TULSA, Okla. — A Claremore man led police on a high-speed chase Saturday night before crashing his car, authorities said.

Tulsa police said they were called to a parking lot near North 129th East Avenue and Pine. When they arrived, they found around 200 cars involved in street racing.

Police attempted to pull over one of the drivers but the driver didn’t stop.

The driver, who was later identified as Saul Hernandez, 18, of Claremore, was driving as fast as 100 mph through Tulsa and ended up traveling into Wagoner County where Oklahoma Highway Patrol took over, police said.

Hernandez ended up crashing his car near East 71st Street South and South 305th East Ave in Broken Arrow, police said.

Hernandez was thrown from the car and was transported to the hospital by helicopter.

Hernandez was treated and released with only a concussion, police said.
