Dexter: New Blood spoilers follow.
Dexter fans may not be getting new content any time soon. Dexter: New Blood finished airing last year, and there was some hope for a second season, or a prequel to expand the franchise.
Now though it seems the plans have been laid to one side with no clear confirmation as of yet.
According to Deadline, the creation of further shows – particularly a prequel, or a series focusing on Dexter's son Harrison – is something Showtime has been thinking about, but that hasn't made it past the talking stage.

There's plenty of content to work with; the finale of New Blood saw Harrison murder his father after learning of his true identity and the fact that he'd killed Sergeant Logan.
And, it seems like showrunner Clyde Phillips wouldn't be opposed to a season two or franchise expansion based on the exploits of Dexter's son.
Previously, he asserted (via TVLine): "It's all in Showtime's hands. If they were to call me and say: 'We want to do [a show focused on] Harrison. We want you to figure it out', I'm pretty busy, but I would drop everything I'm doing and jump right into it. I would love to do it, but it's really up to Showtime."
So, we could jump back into the Dexter world if the network greenlights it.

It definitely seems like the appetite is there; Deadline reports that the New Blood finale drew 3 million viewers. This made it the biggest finale for the network since Homeland in 2013.
For now, we know that there's no second season, and currently no solid prequel plans. Fingers crossed the high audience numbers win over the network and the Dexterverse come backs to our screens again.
