The Little Light House is beginning its campus expansion plans with a groundbreaking ceremony on a custom splash pad for children with disabilities on Monday, Feb. 6.
LLH says it has always been a vision to create a space where students can enjoy sensory play, practice therapy techniques, and explore social interaction with friends.
“We want our students to enjoy a splash pad that is focused on their accessible needs,” said Georgia Canady, Senior Director of Development for the Little Light House. “Our students deserve the chance to experience a splash pad that fits their needs and at their ground level to play with their peers.”
The Outdoor Splash Pad is named in memory of Sarah Ashley Harmon, a passionate, kind, and innovative LLH therapy intern.
Harmon served as an intern through the LLH Therapy Department, specializing in speech-language pathology.
Harmon was passionate about helping children with disabilities. LLH says her favorite was water day.
Her memorial fund has contributed significantly to the development of the Outdoor Splash Pad.
“This is an opportunity for Sarah Harmon to be honored for her work here at Little Light House and her giving spirit," Canady said. "She loved water day at Little Light House, and I truly couldn’t think of a better name for our Splash Pad than the Sarah Ashley Harmon Splash Pad.”
This splash pad is the start of an expansion that will include an entire outdoor classroom, the replacement of the current playground, and establishing of a new LLH branch in north Tulsa.
