A Union City woman was seriously injured in a Friday evening hit-and-run collision in Greenville.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, shortly after 8 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian being struck in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Woodlawn Avenue. Responding officers located a victim – later identified as a 48-year-old Union City woman – with an injury to a lower extremity. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene.
The victim was taken by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.
On Saturday, the investigation was turned over to the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit after being notified of the severity of the victim’s injuries. She remains hospitalized in stable condition.
The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
Reducing traffic fatalities has been a priority of both the Fulop administration and local advocacy groups like Safe Streets Jersey City and Bike JC. In 2018, Jersey City became the first city in New Jersey to adopt Vision Zero, the international traffic safety framework that set a goal of zero traffic fatalities. In 2022, Jersey City logged zero traffic deaths.
