The Nebraska Schools Activities Association hosted the Nebraska state wrestling duals championships Saturday at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds Arena in Kearney.  Broken Bow claimed its third state duals championship in Class C.  After winning the championship in 2018 and 2019, the Indians added a third championship trophy on Saturday.  It was a dominant performance for Broken Bow that left no doubt who the best dual team in Class C is this season.  Bow started the tournament with a 61-9 win over Logan View to advance to the semifinals where they faced Fillmore Central.  The Fillmore Central dual was close for awhile but Broken Bow won the last four matches, three of them by fall, to pull away and advance with a 51-25 win.  Broken Bow faced Battle Creek in the championship.  The tone for the dual was set early when Broken Bow’s Chauncey Watson pinned Ayden Wintz in the second match of the dual.  The two wrestlers had met previously at the Ord Invite with Wintz winning that match by major decision.  Broken Bow cruised from there winning the championship dual 56-15.  Broken Bow now prepares for district competition as they travel to Mitchell for the C-4 district meet which begins on Friday and concludes Saturday.

The Twin Loup Wolves brought home the Class D runner-up trophy at state duals on Saturday.  Twin Loup had a tremendous day winning exciting close duals in the opening two rounds.  The Wolves opened with a 38-36 win over Thayer Central in the quarterfinals to advance into the semi’s where they faced Shelby Rising City.  Twin Loup trailed 39-36 going into the final match of the dual which was at 220 lbs.  Shelby Rising City was open at that weight as they chose to move their 220 lb. representative up to wrestle at 285.  Slate Micheel picked up the win by forfeit to collect six points and send Twin Loup into the finals with a 42-39 win.  The Wolves would face the #1 ranked team Aquinas Catholic of David City in the finals.  Aquinas would win the championship dual by a final score of 65-15.  Twin Loup finishes the dual season with a 9-2 overall record.

Anselmo-Merna made its first appearance at the state duals championship.  The Coyotes fell in their opening dual of the tournament to Shelby Rising City 45-31 and then fell in the consolation bracket to Thayer Central 42-36.  Anselmo-Merna ends the dual season at 7-2 overall.

In other area action at state duals, Cozad finished fourth in Class B.  The Haymakers defeated Schuyler in the quarterfinals 57-18 but lost to Skutt Catholic of Omaha in the semifinals 50-24.  Cozad wrestled Bennington in the 3rd place as Bennington was able to hold on for the win 38-36.  Burwell competed in the Class D tournament.  Burwell fell to Sutherland in the semifinals 45-30 and then lost to Cambridge in the consolation bracket 48-29.
