JOPLIN, Mo. - About 6:10 a.m. Sunday morning February 5, 2023, reports of flames at a house on the eastern edge of Junge Stadium alerted Joplin Emergency Dispatch.
Joplin Fire Dept, Joplin Police and METS ambulance responded emergency to 1309 S Jackson.
First reports a large smoke column visible from blocks away. Visible flames and smoke on arrival, Joplin firefighters were out for attack.
The fire was under control within 15 minutes. No one was located inside the residence.
We are told the home is vacant. However the property has a large amount of items in the yard. Toys, furniture, trash bags, etc. The back yard is not easily visible as a large fence covers view of a copious amount of things some would call junk.
Joplin Fire spent time overhauling the interior and we are told there didn't appear to be extension of the fire into the attic space. The fire was contained to the southwest room(s) of the structure. Extensive damage is visible.
Joplin Fire Marshal was being contacted, which is protocol with any fire in the city of Joplin.
Firefighters cleared the scene about 8:05 a.m.
