1 person dead in Saluda County car crash

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - One person is dead after a car accident in Saluda County Sunday morning.

According to troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 12:15 a.m. Sunday morning, on SE 23 near Dickert Drive, a little more than two miles west of Batesburg.

The crash happened when a 2003 Chevy sedan was traveling south on South Carolina 23 ran off the right side of the road, hit a ditch, then a utility pole, where the driver was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver, now identified as 45-year-old Mary Laverne Long, was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash according to the Saluda County Coroner’s Office.

They say an autopsy has been scheduled for early this week.

The Saluda County Coroner’s Office also says the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office, Saluda County EMS, Saluda County Fire, and Dominion Energy also assisted in the response to this accident.

The Coroner’s Office also extends their thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Ms. Long.
