Black Wall Street Heritage and History Festival held in north Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. — The 10th annual Black Wall Street Heritage and History Festival took place Saturday afternoon.

The event took place at The Big 10 Ballroom, near E. Apache St. and N. Peoria Ave., and lasted from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event featured Black vendors, spoken words, a fashion show and live music.

Billie Parker organized the event. She said she wouldn’t be where she is today without the support of her family.

“I couldn’t do what I do without their support and my help from my family,” she said.

Billie’s sister, Andraleque Parker, said Billie believes in reaching the youth.

“My sister’s Billie’s vision is so amazing, because she believes in reaching our youth, our youth needs us right now,” she said.

Billie said the youth needs to connect with their heritage.

“The youth needs to connect with their heritage, cause you have to know where you’re from to know where you’re going in life,” Billie said.

Billie said the event has had a variety of locations over the past 10 years, but they chose The Big 10 Ballroom to help support the community.

“I started at Lacy Park, then I went to the 36th street event center, then I went to Greenwood Culture center, but I thought, ‘We need to come out north to our community to support them.’ I’m all about supporting our community,” she said.
