Watertown takes second at Yankton; 13 area grapplers win titles

YANKTON — Watertown's boys crowned five champions and finished second out of 17 teams Saturday in the Yankton Invitational wrestling tournament.

Pierre edged Watertown 250-235 for the title.

Gage Lohr

Gage Lohr (106 pounds, 35-3 overall), Sloan Johannsen (120, 39-0), Braden Le (132, 27-10), Brock Eitreim (195, 29-6) and Micah Hach (285, 36-3) each went 4-0 on the way to winning titles for the Arrows.

Leo Stroup (113), Weston Everson (126) and Jax Kettwig (170) each took third; Ian Johnson (152) fourth; Markus Pitkin (145) and Jackson Maag (182) each fifth; and Derek Hanson (138) sixth.

Sloan Johannsen

Pierre also won the girls division with 186 points. Watertown took fifth with 79, Sioux Valley 13th with 23, Groton Area 16th with 13, Doland 18th with 11.5 and Britton-Hecla 21st with 5.

Braden Le

The Arrows had six place winners including Hope Orr (285, 20-3), who went 2-0 with two falls to win her division. Allison Konrad took third at 190, Olivia Anderson fourth at 106, April Peterson fifth at 154, Jeryn Fieber sixth at 126 and Katelyn Yexley seventh at 132.

Brock Eitreim

Groton Area had two place winners and Sioux Valley, Doland and Britton-Hecla each one in the girls division.

Watertown's wrestlers are scheduled to host Brandon Valley and Mitchell in a triangular starting at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Civic Arena.

Big East/Lake Central Conference

De SMET — Four area wrestlers captured individual titles in the Big East-Lake Central Conference tournament on Saturday.

Cooper Pommer of Clark-Willow Lake (34-3 at 106 pounds), Gannon Gilligan of Kingsbury County (24-5 at 126) and Dominic Constant of Deuel (20-6 at 182) each captured boys division titles. All three went 3-0.

Dani Batchelor of Clark-Willow Lake won the girls' 106-pound division with a 2-0 record.

Parker won the boys division with 182. Kingsbury County was fourth (101), Deuel seventh (86), Sioux Valley eighth (55), Clark-Willow Lake ninth (54) and Hamlin-Castlewood 12th (38). Kingsbury County had six placers, Deuel five, Sioux Valley three and Clark-Willow Lake and Hamlin-Castlewood two each.

Flandreau won the girls division with a score of 34. Hamlin-Castlewood also had one place winner.

Redfield Invitational

REDFIELD — Redfield crowned four champions and placed second in the 14-team Redfield Invitational on Saturday.

Parkston topped the field with 164 points, followed by Redfield at 139.5. Britton-Hecla was ninth (46.5), Potter County 10th (43) and Sisseton 11th (29). Redfield had seven place winners and Britton-Hecla, Potter County and Sisseton two apiece.

Brady Risetter (28-0 at 106 pounds), Mason Whitley (33-6 at 152), Seth Siebrecht (16-11 at 185) and Grady Fey (32-1 at 285) each won titles for Redfield. Risetter went 4-0 and Whitley, Siebrecht and Fey each 3-0.

Big Dakota Conference

FORT PIERRE — Christian Ehresmann of Groton Area and Jesse Bears Heart of Mobridge-Pollock each captured individual championships Saturday in the 17-team Big Dakota Conference tourney.

Winner Area took the title with 232 points. Mobridge-Pollock was sixth (100.5), Groton Area ninth (75), Sunshine Bible Academy 14th (23) and McLaughlin 15th (20).

Bearsheart (30-9 at 170) went 4-0 and was one of five place winners for Mobridge-Pollock. Ehresmann (24-3 at 138) recorded four falls for Groton Area, which had three place winners.

Two wrestlers placed for Sunshine Bible Academy. Mobridge-Pollock had another place winner in the girls division, which was won by Lakota Tech with 112 points.

Warner-Northwestern Quadrangular

WARNER — Britton-Hecla posted wins over Warner-Northwestern 36-36 (tiebreaker), Ipswich-Bowdle 33-24 and Potter County 36-30 in a high school quadrangular on Friday.

Potter County rebounded to top Ipswich-Bowdle 48-30 and Warner-Northwestern 40-36. Warner-Northwestern topped Ipswich-Bowdle 30-15 in the other dual.

Britton-Hecla's Tanner Atkinson (106) and Collin Beaner (152) each went 3-0.

Lane Stuwe (106-2113), Nicholas Schlachter (113-120), Tanner Vander Vorst (126-132), Tanner Frickson (138) and Carter Luikens (160-170) each won three matches for Potter County.

Charlie Dulany (145), Alex Pudwill (170), Cole Wilkie (195) and Preston Cavalier (220) of Warner-Northwestern and Brady Unser (120), Justin Rohrbach (182) and Lucas Rowland (285) also posted three wins apiece.

Lyman Quadrangular

PRESHO — Christian Ehresmann (138 pounds) and Korbin Kucker (152) each went 3-0 for Groton Area in a high school quadrangular on Friday.

The Tigers lost to Bennett County 36-30, Lyman 48-18 and Marion-Freeman 42-28.

Redfield Triangular

REDFIELD — Redfield went 1-1 in a high school wrestling triangular on Friday, beating Sisseton 65-17 and losing to Parkston 45-36.

Brady Risetter (106-113 pounds), Camden Murray (182), Seth Siebrecht (195), Chase McGillivary (220) and Grady Fey (285) each posted two wins for the Pheasants.

Holden Hawkins (132), Quincy Harris (138) and Keondray White (152) each posted wins for Sisseton against Redfield. No details were posted on the Sisseton-Parkston dual.
