A body discovered last week along the shoreline just outside Hilo Bay on the Big Island has been identified as that of a visitor from California. The Hawai‘i Police Department says the victim was identified as Clifford Edward Myers Sr. of Van Nuys, Calif. Preliminary results of an autopsy performed March 16 did not show signs of foul play; however, final results are pending toxicology and additional forensic testing.

Police identify body found along Hilo shoreline on Big Island

Hawai‘i Island police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating 73-year-old Danny L. Ostlund of Hilo. He was reported missing on March 22, 2023. Ostlund was last seen on Banyan Drive in Hilo on Feb. 26, 2023. He is Caucasian, 6 feet 1 inches tall and 160 pounds, with white medium-length hair and brown eyes. Ostlund is known to occasionally use a cane or a walking stick.

73-year-old man from Hilo has been missing since Feb. 26

No injuries were reported after a grocery store in Hilo was evacuated due to a freon leak Tuesday afternoon. Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to the hazmat situation at Sack N Save, located at 250 Kinoole St., at approximately 3:30 p.m., after receiving reports of unknown white smoke originating from a machine room in the back of the store, spreading out into the store floor.
