Shasta County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) sent out a press release on Saturday, announcing the arrest of an Oregon man who they say was on a "crime spree" in Happy Valley Friday evening.
Officers say that around 4:34 p.m. on Friday, deputies were dispatched to a report of a suspicious male banging on a front door of a residence on the 5000 block of Olive Street in Anderson. SCSO say they received multiple reports soon after from several other residents in the area, who say the same male suspect was on their properties acting erratically.
Deputies located the man, later identified as 30-year-old Zachary Welch, of Drain, Oregon. Welch was found on Scout Avenue near the intersection of Sherry Lane.
SCSO says Welch had assaulted a citizen in his backyard, stolen property, and was seen climbing over fences onto several neighboring properties.
One victim of Welch's assault was found by deputies on the 5000 block of Paul Lane.
According to SCSO, Welch had caused thousands of dollars worth of damages to the residence by breaking through the front door with a metal T-post, damaging light fixtures, damaging surveillance cameras, and tearing down fencing.
Welch had also gained entry into the residence by breaking out a sliding glass dog door insert.
SCSO says that Welch was non-compliant and resisted arrest while being detained. Welch also refused to give his name during the investigation and reportedly made death threats to officers while being transported to Shasta County Jail.
Welch was charged with obstruction/resisting an officer, assault/battery, burglary, felony vandalism, and public intoxication.
SCSO says that if anyone has further information on this case, or has suffered damages as a result of this incident, to contact them at (530) 245-6540.
