Serious Tybee Island crash ends in arrest

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Police are investigating a wild crash on Tybee Island. It happened Saturday evening on First Street near the Jones Street intersection.

The driver from this crash, now identified as Abigail Owen, has been arrested and charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane and driving with a suspended license.

According to the Tybee Police Department, Owen was driving a white SUV when it crashed into a parked car. The SUV was sideways and on top of the car, propped up by a power pole.

Police said they smelled alcohol on Owen’s breath. A WSAV crew at the scene watched as she stumbled through a field sobriety check. She was taken away in handcuffs.

First Street had to be closed down while a wrecker worked to carefully pulled the cars apart. Georgia Power was also at the scene because the SUV was propped up on a power pole.
