Officer interrupts car theft in progress: Lakewood Police Blotter

LAKEWOOD, Ohio –

Attempted grand theft: Plover Street

An officer at 12:24 a.m. on Jan. 22 pulled up on an attempted grand theft of a motor vehicle in progress on Plover Street, according to a police event report. The officer spotted a man dressed entirely in black and wearing a ski mask. The vehicle carrying the suspects took off once they spotted the officer. The officer gave chase, and the suspects drove eastbound on Madison Avenue. The officer broke off the pursuit as the suspects neared W. 117th Street. The vehicles’ speeds exceeded 50 mph in moderate traffic, according to the police event report. The suspects’ vehicle had been reported as stolen out of Cleveland. It was last seen headed southbound on W. 117th Street.

Grand theft vehicle: Cook Avenue

A resident called the police department at 10:32 p.m. on Jan. 22 to report their vehicle was missing from their driveway. The vehicle was recovered on Jan. 28, according to a Lakewood Police Department event report.

Grand theft vehicle: Winton Avenue

A resident called the police department at 7:13 p.m. on Jan. 25 to report a missing vehicle.

Grand theft vehicle: Fries Avenue

A resident at 10:59 p.m. on Jan. 25 reported that a vehicle, parked on the street near the resident’s home, was missing.

Grand theft vehicle: North Lane Drive

The police department at 1:23 a.m. on Jan. 24 received information about a vehicle stolen from a residence on North Lane Drive.

Grand theft vehicle: South Lane Drive

A witness called the police department at 7:36 p.m. on Jan. 20 to report witnessing the theft of a vehicle from an apartment building parking lot. The caller said a Jeep pulled into the parking lot and a passenger exited the vehicle wearing a mask and stole a blue Hyundai that was parked nearby. Both vehicles then drove out of the lot.

A condominium resident at 8 a.m. on Jan. 21 reported a vehicle missing out of a parking lot.

Grand theft vehicle: Ethel Avenue

A resident at 10:18 a.m. on Jan. 21 reported a missing vehicle.

Attempted grand theft vehicle: Beach Avenue

Officers at 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 were dispatched to Beach Avenue to take a report about the attempted theft of a 2021 Kia Forte. The would-be thieves gained entry by breaking a rear passenger window, according to a police report. The steering column was peeled back in an attempt to start the vehicle.

Attempted grand theft vehicle: Newman Avenue

A witness called the police department at 12:56 a.m. on Jan. 24 to report hearing noises outside and spotting two men going through the rear window of a gray car parked in an apartment building parking lot. The men had showed up in a black Kia, and they used the vehicle to drive away northbound on Newman, according to a police event report. When officers arrived, they found a car with a broken window and the steering column peeled.

Attempted grand theft vehicle: Beach Parkway

Police received a call at 8:11 a.m. on Jan. 24 about two Kias parked on Beach Parkway with their passenger side windows broken out.

Attempted grand theft vehicle: Newman Avenue

Police received a report at 9:11 a.m. on Jan. 24 about a car with a window broken out and the steering column peeled.

Attempted grand theft vehicle: Beach Parkway

A resident at 12:22 p.m. on Jan. 22 reported an attempted vehicle theft. The back window of the vehicle was broken out and the column was peeled.

Attempted grand theft vehicle: Lake Avenue

An officer at 4 p.m. on Jan. 22 reported a car in a condominium parking lot with the door not closed all the way. The officer discovered the column was peeled and the glove box was open.

Theft: Lake Avenue

A resident at 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 22 reported finding their computer, passport, medications, and other items missing from their unlocked car.

Criminal damaging: Lake Avenue

Police at 12:53 p.m. on Jan. 23 responded to a report of a window being broken out of a parked car.

Theft: Bunts Road

A resident at 10:31 p.m. on Jan. 25 reported that thieves had cut the catalytic converter off her Honda Civic.

Burglary: Edgewater Drive

An Edgewater Drive apartment building maintenance employee called the police department at 3:55 p.m. on Jan. 25 to report the laundry room had been broken into.

Burglary: Robin Street

A caller at 2:59 p.m. on Jan. 24 reported coming home to find a TV missing and it appeared the locks had been tampered with.

Theft: Lake Avenue

A resident at 7 p.m. on Jan. 24 reported finding the windows broken out of their vehicle and tools were missing.
