Warm up on the way following bitter cold temperatures

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The very worst of the cold is over, but it will be another frigid night Saturday across western Massachusetts.

This cold over the past few days has been brutal but thankfully there is light at the end of the tunnel for everyone who misses weather that doesn’t require a million layers and worrying that your car won’t start.

“Oh it’s very cold, I like it but when it gets like too low then it’s not alright,” said Jose Cubisa from El Salvador.

Historic wind chills across western Massachusetts and the Northeast have had people bundling up over the past few days. Though we’ve had a more mild winter up until now, this quick but arctic blast has gotten people back into their normal winter routine.

“I just gotta bundle up, and put my hats and gloves on!,” expressed Bevan Carpentar from Easthampton.

The thermometer read in the negatives from Friday night into Saturday morning, and that’s without factoring in wind chill, so the milder weather is a breath of fresh air for many.

“Yeah, it’s supposed to get into the 40’s, right? Like 45…almost summer!,” said Tyler Simmons from Hampton Beach New Hampshire.

Saturday night will still be very chilly outside but the weather is set to transition from frigid cold to the 40’s. This quick of a transition in such a short span can make our bodies more prone to illnesses like the flu, scratchy throats, and stuffy noses. Some tips to avoid falling sick are to stay hydrated, incorporate anti-inflammatory foods into your diet, and of course maintain basic hygiene.

Our 22News Storm Team will have continuing coverage on the end of this cold stretch, and the near 60 degree difference between Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon.
