Hollyoaks star Charlie Behan has revealed if he would ever consider quitting the soap.

The actor, who has played Charlie Dean on the Channel 4 soap since 2011, was speaking to Inside Soap to talk about recent scenes from the soap, and was asked about his future on the show.

“People like Jess [Fox] and Ellis [Hollins] have always said you should stick with what you enjoy,” said Behan. “I feel like Hollyoaks is my home. I don’t think I should leave – and there’s no need to go elsewhere when I’ve got all these big storylines.

“I’m really enjoying it,” he continued. “I’ve been at Hollyoaks since I was six years old, and I turned 18 last October. I’ve grown up here and it’s all I’ve ever known.”

The character has recently been at the centre of drama following Vicky’s collapse at the campfire, and Behan spoke about how the incident has affected those involved as well as his experience shooting the scenes.

“Everyone thinks Charlie had something to do with Vicky collapsing,” he said. “The police question him and he’s very scared – he knows first-hand what it’s like in young offenders.

“He’s had a troubled childhood, yet he doesn’t always help himself,” continued Behan. “He rarely learns from his mistakes. We are like chalk and cheese – but that’s why I like playing him."

He added: "I like doing stuff that is on topic and relevant to people my age – it’s good to raise awareness about things like teenage drug use.”

In the most recent episode (February 3), it was revealed that the cause of Vicky’s collapse was purely accidental, with the character inadvertently drinking ecstasy-laced alcohol that was meant for Charlie and Leah.

Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
