Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Tina O’Brien opened up about how her character Sarah Platt isn’t safe in the new Stephen Reid storyline.

As fans may be aware, Sarah’s uncle Stephen is the soap’s new serial killer. He has already killed Leo and Teddy, with more victims almost guaranteed to come.

Speaking about her character finding out about who Stephen really is, Tina told Inside Soap: “Oh, she’d be devastated. Sarah looks up to him; he gave her an opportunity and a career in Milan and she listens to his advice. She's oblivious.”

As for whether her character is safe from his wrath, she thinks no one is safe — not even her.

“I don’t think anybody is safe. If he winks at me funny, I’m going to panic and start running from the building! Sarah is one of the closest people to him, so if she finds out, she might be the next one to go,” the star explained.

Tina also talked about how this compares to the time when Richard Hillman used to torment the town.

“I hadn’t even made the connection, but the idea that it’s another big story for the Platts as a family is wonderful. I remember going to a big underwater tank to film the canal series for Richard’s exit, and it was like nothing we had ever done before,” she said.

“Myself and Jack [P Shepherd, who plays David] learned how to escape from a sinking helicopter — and the stuff with the car landing in the actual canal, just wow.

"It was possibly the coldest day on Earth, and at the age I am now, I’d probably be like ‘Excuse me, no no no, I’m not getting in that freezing cold water!’ but back then we were like ‘Woo-hoo!’” Tina explained.

“I still have a little photograph of us wrapped up in foil trying to warm up because it was that cold,” she added.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
