GOLDEN LINK SENIOR CENTER BRINGS BACK VALENTINE’S DAY COOKIE FUNDRAISER FOR SECOND YEAR

The Golden Link Senior Center in Crookston is bringing back its Valentine’s Day Cookie Fundraiser for the second year. The Center is selling sugar cookies by the dozen to help raise funds for the Center to use for any future needs or purchases for the Senior Center.

During the weekend, the Golden Link Senior Center will bake heart-shaped sugar cookies with sprinkles and/or frosting, but they can also make plain sugar cookies upon request. The Center sells them at $6 per order of a dozen for the sprinkled or plain cookies and $7 for the frosted cookies. “People may stop in, or if they’re coming in for coffee or lunch, they can stop in the office and see myself, Jen, and I will write the order down for them,” Golden Link Senior Center Manager Jen Erdmann explained. “They can also call 218-281-3072 and speak with me, and we will place that order. We’ll have them ready by the thirteenth of February, the day before Valentine’s Day, and they can stop anytime between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to pick up those cookie orders.” All orders must be made before Thursday, February 9, to allow for the Golden Link to gather the ingredients and dough they need to make. And if any cookies are left over from the sale, customers can come and get them after the sale on the 13.

With the funds they receive the Center will receive from the cookie sales, the Center plans to use it for certain necessities to help the Center run smoothly, though it won’t go to any specific department. “Right now, we don’t really have any specific thing in mind, but the fund is kept separate. I don’t add it into the main thing,” Head Cook and Treasurer Shirley Nielsen explained. “We keep it separate, so if we come up with something we need a quick fundraiser for, we’ve got some money stashed already.” Examples of items include items for the kitchen or office equipment.

Along with the fundraiser, the Center has a few other activities planned for the rest of February, including a guest speaker coming in on February 21. “We have Connie Hannesson coming as a Speaker of the Month for Black History Month. We’re looking forward to that, and thereafter each month, on the third Tuesday of the month,” Jane Erdmann explained. “Also, for Valentine’s Day, we’re going to be serving lasagna and something pink or red for dessert, and we’re hoping to have an afternoon movie. We’re not sure what that will be yet, but we’ll be making homemade popcorn that afternoon, so please call or join us for that afternoon movie around 1:00 p.m.” Along with their daily activities, the Center is looking to bring back its evening dinners next month, every second and fourth Thursday of each month.

The Golden Link Senior Center’s Valentine’s Day Cookie Fundraiser will be held on Monday, February 13, but all orders must be placed by Thursday, February 9. Plain and sprinkled cookies will cost $6 per dozen, and frosted cookies will be $7 per dozen. To place your order(s), you can go to the Golden Link Senior Center to place your order, or call it in at 218-281-3072.
