LIST: Cannabis dispensaries in the St. Louis region

ST. LOUIS – Nearly three months after Missourians voted to legalize marijuana, they can now buy it. Sales are already underway for those 21 and older. Missouri’s first round of recreational marijuana sales began Friday; the legalization took effect on Monday.

The Missouri Department of Health told about 300 dispensaries, cultivation, and manufacturing facilities across the state they could expand their services to sell recreational pot.

“We were approved on Friday,” said Charles Unger, Greenlight Dispensary’s General Manager. “I think everyone was pleasantly surprised; we’ve had Monday, February 6 on the books forever, and the state gave us a little bit of a present with that.”

Cannabis cafés could also soon become a reality in some parts of unincorporated St. Louis County, after the County Planning Commission introduced a bill recommending new regulations to the city ordinance for Amendment 3.

The state levies a 6% tax on recreational sales – on top of regular sales taxes, compared to Illinois where taxes are up to 25%.

“They’re here, and we have people doing a double take thinking we forgot to ring them something up, or maybe something was missed, they made a mistake, but no – it’s just Missouri’s going to be a lot friendlier to their cannabis patients than any other market,” Unger shared.

Revenue in Missouri will be devoted to carrying out marijuana crime expungements. More than 5,000 marijuana expungements have been granted in the state.

Some sites in the St. Louis area have already started selling to adults 21 and older. Dozens of dispensaries are scattered across the region.
