The Metropolitan Division fell to the Atlantic Division in the 2023 NHL All Star Game at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida but once again Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins put on a show.

Ovechkin connected on a pass to Crosby at 6:19 of the first to give the Metropolitan Division the 3-2 lead. Atlantic stormed back. At 1:58 Ovechkin set up another Crosby goal. That gave them a 5-4 lead. Then Crosby set up Ovechkin at 2:21 to make it 6-4.

From then on the Atlantic Division scored six unanswered goals to advance to the finals where they’ll take on the Central Division.

Ovechkin and Crosby shared the spotlight the night before in the Skills Competition in the Breakaway Challenge as they were joined by Alex’s four year old son Sergei. Sergei scored and the trio scored a perfect 10 from each judge to win it.

The Caps now enter time off with no practice until Thursday and no game until Saturday afternoon against the Boston Bruins. They’ll also play at home on Super Bowl Sunday.

In two weeks is the Stadium Series which is another NHL marquee event where the Caps will take on the first place Carolina Hurricanes at Carter Finlay Stadium on the campus of North Carolina State.

For now the Caps will get some much deserved rest. They’ve been hit with the injury bug all season long. Now they can rest and recover for the rest of the second half as teams jockey for the final playoff spots.

They got off to a slow start then heated up before having a bad month of January. Who knows what the month of February will bring for this team but one thing is for certain, they aren’t shy to make news.
