Main Street Vermilion embraced the cold weather during a 14th annual Ice A Fair.

The Ice A Fair was held on Feb. 4 in downtown Vermilion.

“We, as Main Street, really enjoy being able to bring people to town and promote all of our restaurants and shops,” said Main Street Vermilion Treasurer Fred Miggins. “Today ended up being a perfect, sunshine day for everyone to be out during this winter season.”

Droves of crowds were able to enjoy ice sculptures, neighborhood trolley tours, live demonstrations, frozen play space as well as the Ice A Fair mascots, Pete the Penguin and Jolly the Snowman.

More than 50 local businesses sponsored sculptures, said Miggins.

“We have approximately 57 sculptures,” he said. “Some of our sponsors are from the east side of town and we’re grateful for every business that chose to participate and partner with us for this.”

The ever favorite Fire & Ice display began at 6 p.m. and featured a flaming ice carved chimney house set to music and fire dancers.

The evening concluded with the Melt Down Party! at 7PM at the Vermilion Boat Club, 5416 Liberty Avenue.

Raffle tickets were also sold for the Cold Hard Cash sculpture where participants could win $1,000 and other prizes including Guardians and Cavs tickets and 6 months of car washes.

Miggins said they are grateful for organizations who donated raffle prizes.

“We fund the Cold Hard Cash that has been a part of this event during its entire tenure and it’s a nice active draw for people,” said Miggins. “As a nonprofit, we want to raise money that we can put back into the community and we do what we can.”

Miggins said the Main Street Vermilion goal is to bring attention and events to the city.

“We are essentially the tourist bureau of Vermilion,” said Miggins. “We answer a lot of questions for people who may be in town, and we want to be that friendly face and bring people to town.”
