Miami basketball wins at Clemson for biggest victory of season

The Miami basketball team held on late to earn a 78-74 win at Clemson on Saturday afternoon. Miami ended a 15-game Clemson home win streak at Littlejohn Coliseum. Miami had exceptional balance with all five starters finishing in double figures and Harlond Beverly contributing seven off the bench in the first half.

Miami pulled away early in the second half after the score was tied at 35 at halftime. Nijel Pack with 14, Isaiah Wong with 11 and Wooga Poplar with 10 all scored double figures in the second half. Pack led Miami with 20 points, Wong scored 15, Poplar 14. Jordan Miller 12 and Norchad Omier finished with 10.

An offensive rebound by Omier off a Miller miss with 59 seconds remaining in the game and Miami leading 70-67 was the pivotal play. Omier was fouled split his free throws and extended the Miami lead to two possessions. Clemson was unable to score on its next possession and was forced to foul the rest of the way.

Pack, Poplar and Wong combined to make five of their six free throw attempts in the final 27 seconds to put the game away. Miami also dominated rebounding with a 38 to 28 advantage over Clemson. The Hurricanes had nine to two edge in offensive rebounds. Miami went 17-22 from the free throw line, Clemson 8-9.

Clemson had three players finish in double figures with P.J. Hall leading the Tigers with 19 points. Hall scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half with all five of his rebounds in the final 20 minutes. Brevin Galloway scored 15 for Clemson and Hunter Tyson finished with 13, but only two in the second half.

The Miami basketball team is home all next week. Duke visits the Watsco Center on Monday night followed by Louisville who is 3-20 overall and in 14th place in the ACC. Duke is 16-6 overall and 7-4 and tied for sixth place in the ACC. Duke hosts North Carolina on Saturday. Miami finishes the season with five of its last seven at home.
