Kathy Evey Announces Candidacy for Benner Township Board of Supervisors

A former Bellefonte Area School Board member and township auditor is running for Benner Township supervisor.

Republican Kathy Evey will be seeking the one six-year term on the three-member Board of Supervisors that is up for election this year, she announced this week.

She said in a statement that her “extensive background and experience contain many qualifications that are essential to being a successful township supervisor.” She has worked in tax preparation for CPA and tax offices, as well as spending time as a legal assistant, a municipal authority office manager and a building manager for a 91-unit homeowners association.

From 1991 to 1999, Evey served on the Bellefonte school board, and in 2021 she was part of the effort to create Win4Bellefonte, a community organization dedicated to supporting school board candidates formed amid the district’s Native American nickname controversy.

In addition to her previous role as Benner Township auditor, she was elected in 2022 as a Pennsylvania Republican Committee member to represent the more than 40,000 registered Republicans in Centre County.

Evey was born and raised on her family’s farm in Benner Township. After a brief time living in Bellefonte, she and her husband, Jared, returned to the township in 1979 to raise their family.

She said she has a “high level of integrity and beliefs that the best decisions are made openly, honestly and fairly,” and that she would represent residents “with transparency, respect and fairness,” while enforcing the township’s codes and processes equally for all.

“As your supervisor, Kathy would represent you in the best interest for the safety, welfare, growth and preservation — when and where necessary — for the future of Benner Township and all of its residents,” a press release stated.

The supervisor position up for election this year is currently held by Republican Thomas Moyer.

The municipal primary election is May 16. Candidates can circulate and file nomination petitions starting on Feb. 14.
